How to choose aquatic plants
HOW TO CHOOSE AQUATIC PLANTS:
OXYGENATING PLANTS
Essential - withut them the water will stay green. They thrive on mineral salts and other nutrients in the water.
So once established, these plants should take care of the algae problem.
As a rough guideyou will need one bunch of oxygenating plants for every 2 sq. ft. of surface area. Oxygenators also benefit fish, as they give out oxygen during the stay.
MARGINAL PLANTS
These plants help break up hard edges, giving the pond a more natural appearance.
There are many varieties, providing striking contrast of colour and foliage.
Allow one marginal for every 5 sq. ft.
Marginal plants provide shade and absorb unwanted nitrates through their roots.
FLOATING PLANTS
Plants such as 'Water Hyacinth 'help control blanket weed and algae, reducing the amount of sunlight on the water surface. Allow one for every 10 sq. ft.
DEEP WATER AQUATICS
The best known in the group is the lily. Its large colourful blooms make it a focal point of any pond. Half to two-thirds of the water surface should be covered with the lily pads and other floating foliage at the height of the growing season. Allow one lily for every 25 sq.ft.

COLLECTION C; (for about 25 sq.ft./2.32 mtr sq.)
2 deep water plant, 10 oxygenators, 6 marginals, 3 floating plants.
COLLECTION D; (for about 40 sq.ft./3.8 mtr sq.)
